What’s In A Trash Can Drink? Find Out Today!

Maybe the name is a little off-putting, but let us tell you that the Trash Can Drink is actually a pretty tasty cocktail. It is effortless to make, has a funky greenish color, and is particularly famous around St. Patrick’s Day. Some speculate of the cocktail’s name: it is made from the last things you get from the bottles before throwing them in the trash, which we think can be true.

No one knows where this cocktail originated or if it is or is not Irish, but no one can deny that it is a great drink to make, and you can make it in large quantities, like in a trash can size. We bet it started as an (arguably) failed experiment at a college frat party and spread like wildfire. Here are three recipes of how to make a Trash Cash Cocktail, and one of them is a virgin version.

Version 1: Irish Trash Can (Single Cocktail)

Put a handful of ice in the large cocktail glass and add in all the alcohols. Stir thoroughly to mix everything; open the Red Bull and carefully place the can upside down in the cocktail glass, at about a 45-degree angle. Do not remove the Red Bull can from the cocktail, as it slowly leaks into the cocktail, refilling your glass and turning the liquid greenish. Put a straw and serve. Enjoy!

Version 2: Trash Can Punch (Party Mix)

Wash the trash can well, pour in all the liquids, cut up the fruit, and add it to the mix. Stir well and let the mixture sit for at least an hour or more. The longer it sits, the more the fruit absorbs the alcohol and adds to the flavor. Add the ice before serving the Trash Can Punch cocktail.

Version 3: Virgin Trash Can Cocktail

Pour all the liquids in a large jug, add in the fruit and blend well. Add ice to your glass and fill the glass with the cocktail, garnish with any fruit you have on hand. Serve with a straw.
